Privacy Policy

Otterpace is designed to be private, and it's open source so you can verify it. The short version: your Apple Health data is read on your device and never uploaded. This version of the app has no analytics and no tracking. No account is required — Sign in with Apple is optional and only syncs your step goal and preferences if you turn it on. An optional AI coach works only when you add your own API key. We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.

Health data

With your permission, Otterpace reads activity data from Apple Health — your step count, walking/running distance, active energy, and workouts — to show your dashboard and generate coaching. This data is:

• read on your device only, and used there to power the app;
• never transmitted to us or any third party, and never stored on a server;
• used only while you use the app — you can revoke access anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.

Accounts & Sign in with Apple

No account is required to use Otterpace. If you choose Sign in with Apple, the app stores the anonymous user identifier Apple provides, kept locally in your device's Keychain so you stay signed in. We don't retain your name or email.

Signing in also unlocks optional settings sync (off by default): your step goal and preferences — no health data — can be stored privately on our backend, keyed to that anonymous Apple identifier, so they follow you across devices. You can turn it off, sign out, or delete this account and its synced data anytime in Settings → Account.

Analytics

The Otterpace app collects no analytics and does not track you — there is no in-app usage tracking in this version. The otterpace.com website uses Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views anonymously — no cookies, no personal identifiers.

AI coach (optional)

If you connect an AI coach by adding your own Anthropic API key, your question, a summary of the day's activity, and the personalization profile you set during onboarding (your step goal, how and when you usually walk, and any other training) are sent to our backend and on to Anthropic to generate a reply. Your key is stored only in your device's Keychain — never on our server — and we don't retain your questions. Your personalization profile stays on your device and is never sent to analytics; it leaves your device only on these AI coach requests, and only when an AI coach is connected.

What we don't do

• No advertising.
• No selling or sharing of your personal data.
• No health or activity data sent to analytics.

Children

Otterpace is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
